Back, Neck & Shoulder Massage
in Coleraine
A focused half hour on the tension that builds from screens, driving and stress.
Book Back & NeckHalf an hour on the neck, shoulders and upper back. It's the same deep tissue work I'd do in an hour, just all of it spent above the waist. If you've never had a massage and aren't sure what you're walking into, it's a sensible place to start.
The pattern I see most
Shoulders up around the ears. A neck that turns fine one way and not the other, and a band across the upper back that's grand in the morning and aching by three.
Hardly anyone can point to the day it started. It's a screen sitting slightly too low, a commute, a phone, and a few months of stress on top of that. Muscle settles into whatever position you spend most of the day in. Change nothing and it comes back.
What the half hour covers
A quick chat about where it's worst and what you do all day, then straight into it. Upper back, shoulders, neck, and the tissue around the shoulder blades, which is often tighter than the neck itself.
I'll tell you what I'm finding as I go rather than keeping it to myself. You'll leave with a stretch or two and, if it's relevant, one thing worth changing about how you sit.
When to book the hour instead
Thirty minutes is plenty for the neck and shoulders and nothing else. If your low back is in it too, book 60 minutes instead. I'd rather you had the time than felt rushed off the table.
If you're not sure which to book, book the 30 and we'll talk it through when you're in. We can always give it more time another day.
Sessions
Need more than the shoulders looked at? Deep tissue runs from 60 minutes and covers the whole picture. Or see the full list of therapies.
Common Questions
For the neck, shoulders and upper back on their own, yes. The whole half hour goes on the area you came in about. Nothing gets cut short to fit it in.
Often, when they're coming from tension in the neck and the base of the skull, which a lot of them are. I can't promise that about every headache, and if yours are severe, new or changing, please get them checked by your GP first.
That's what this session is for. Half an hour on the table plus a few minutes either side. You won't leave covered in oil or unfit to go back to work.
As best I can. Usually it's a mix of position, load and stress, and I'll tell you which muscles are doing the work they shouldn't be and what would take the pressure off.
For this one, usually just down to the waist, face down with towels over you. If you'd rather keep a top on, say so and I'll work through it. Either way is fine.
If it's flaring, fortnightly for a while breaks the cycle. Once it's settled, most people come monthly or just when they feel it building again. I'll give you an honest view rather than a schedule.
